Most beautiful photos from Agra to inspire travel
Agra, renowned for its rich history and stunning architecture, is a city that the whole world knows about. The city’s most famous attraction is the iconic Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of the World. However, there’s so much more to Agra than just the Taj Mahal.
Here are some of the most beautiful features of Agra.
Taj Mahal
This is one of the most recognised landmarks in the world. The famous and iconic Taj Mahal is the pride and joy of not only Agra, but India’s as well. This architectural masterpiece was built by the Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. This white marble mausoleum is a sight to behold.
Agra Fort
Also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and just a short distance away from the Taj Mahal, the Agra Fort is a massive red sandstone fort where the Mughal emperors once lived. The fort is a part of the Taj Mahal itinerary in most cases. It features Jahangiri Mahal, Khas Mahal, Diwan-i-Khas, and Diwan-i-Aam and more.
Fatehpur Sikri
Once a bustling city, Fatehpur Sikri, located just outside of Agra, is now a ghost-city. Long-abandoned, this historical city once served as the capital of the Mughal Empire, but only for a short period. Explore this ghost-city for its Jama Masjid, Buland Darwaza, and the Tomb of Salim Chishti.
Mehtab Bagh
This Mughal-style garden is situated across the Yamuna River from the Taj Mahal. The garden offers a serene and picturesque view of the Taj Mahal, and is a great place to sit and relax and just enjoy the views.
Itmad-ud-Daulah's Tomb
Did you know that this tomb is often referred to as the Baby Taj? This tomb was commissioned by Nur Jahan, the wife of Emperor Jahangir, in memory of her father.
Sikandra
The tomb of Emperor is located in Sikandra, and is marked by this stunning tomb. The Sikandra tomb is a blend of various architectural styles. The landscaped gardens surrounding the tomb is a great place to relax.
Chini ka Rauza
Did you know about this tomb in Agra? This lesser-known but beautiful monument is the tomb of Allama Afzal Khan Mullah, a poet and minister in the court of Emperor Shah Jahan. Visit this structure to see the beautiful glazed-tile work done on the structure’s dome. It’s very pretty!
