Mizoram is the happiest state in India, reveals study; know why
Mizoram has been declared as the happiest state in India. This is as per a study carried out by Rajesh K Pillania, a professor of strategy at the Management Development Institute in Gurugram. In his study, he also shared several factors that have been the driving factor to make this place the happiest.
As per the reports, Mizoram's happiness index is based on six parameters, including work-related issues, family relationships, social issues and philanthropy, COVID-19’S effect on happiness, religion, and physical and mental health.
These are the reasons why Mizoram is the happiest state in India.
Literacy rate
As per the reports, the state successfully attained a 100% literacy rate, and ensures that its students have opportunities to develop their skills and abilities even under challenging conditions. For your information, this state is the second one in India to have achieved cent percent literacy.
Journey from backward to forward
Here, we take the instance of the Lawngtlai district of Mizoram, which was once the state’s most backward and disaster-prone areas. However, it has now become a role model of development, and is known for its concept of ‘Kan Sikul, Kan Huan’ (My School, My Farm).
IAS officer Shashanka Ala introduced this programme when she got to know that vegetables and fruits coming from Assam would often rot and reach the locals, because of which children were suffering from poor diet, leading to the highest percentage of malnourished children under the age of five.
To manage this problem, she started this programme with the headmaster of schools, who made groups of children and turned them into various batches to ensure that every child got at least an hour of ‘Nutrition Garden’ time every week.
The motivated youth & gender equality
The state of Mizoram also known as the Land of Mizos has topped the happiness index majorly because of its youth, which is highly motivated toward studies.
The report added that the youth in the Mizo community, irrespective of their gender, tend to attain financial independence from a young age, and they consider all tasks as equal. There is a very low incidence of gender discrimination in the state, and serves as an example that other states can also learn from.
Societal pressure
The reports further suggest that upbringing plays a crucial role in the happiness index of Mizoram's youth, who live in a casteless society. Plus, parental pressure is relatively lower in this region for academic success and anything else.
Also, as per the students in the state, their teachers are their best friends and not just their educators, with whom they feel comfortable in sharing anything, which further helps them to boost their self-confidence.
Why visit Mizoram?
If the above reasons are not enough to motivate you to plan a visit to this place, you should know that Mizoram is also a gorgeous state in the northeast of India, which is blessed with pristine lakes, mighty mountains, beautiful lakes and, of course, lots of green space. If you are keen to take a detour from the usual trips, a visit to Mizoram can prove to be a memorable one, and enriching for sure.
