Some 50 kilometres north of Beijing lies 13 of the Ming Dynasty's 16 Emperors, buried in an area known for its beauty, size and symmetry. The expansive area is breathtaking during the spring and autumn, when the green lush invites you to a relaxing picnic. Especially enchanting is the 'Spirit Way' leading from the entry gate to the burial grounds, beginning with a striking arch of white marble and turning into a long boardwalk overlooked by weeping trees and magnificent larger-than-life stone statues of soldiers, animals and mythical creatures.
