We must all agree that the forest has its own unique sound, one of the most pleasing sounds in the universe. Bird chirping, brooks running, a crack of a twig, the rustling of leaves, all of this creates a symphony. But what if you could hear these sounds better? At a forest in Estonia, you can do exactly that. The Unplugged Kingsize Megaphones are installed near the Latvian border, in the dense Pahni Nature Centre forest.
The initial idea was to build a library in the forest, but that did not work out as planned, hence these megaphones. The megaphones are installed here for hikers, who can use them for resting while also appreciating its acoustics. Listening to the sound of nature from inside the megaphone is an experience to cherish.
The megaphones were built off site in the city of Tallinn, before being carried into the forest. According to the makers, sound feeds from all three directions at the centre of the installation, and this should create a merged surround sound effect.
The wild nature comes together with contemporary architecture to present a unique opportunity for hikers, both domestic and international. An innovative, wonderful installation, this one is worth cherishing.
