India’s first canopy walk is going to be open for tourists in mid-November in the Western Ghats; it was previously inaugurated in February but was closed due to monsoon season. It was inaugurated on February 18, 2018, by R. V. Deshpande, the then Industries Minister.
Available only in a few countries around the world, the canopy walk is deemed to attract tourists to India’s Western Ghats. While there were some objections made by environmentalists initially, the project was cleared by authorities later.
It is interesting to note here that the longest canopy walk in the world is located in Taman Negara National Park, Malaysia. It is a 500 m walk, and has ten different bridge sections.
