Magnificent period home that captures the elegance of the South

Longue Vue is an impressive mansion set in landscaped gardens at the edge of New Orleans, formerly home to wealthy New Orleans philanthropists Edgar and Edith Stern. Built between 1935 and 1952 the house is an outstanding example of late American Renaissance style, seeking to imitate the great houses of Europe.
Each room in the house is designed around a different theme, from luxuriant black marble bathrooms to airy, floral wallpapered salons, boasting elegant period furniture throughout, just as in the Sterns' day. Encompassing styles from forwarding-looking 1940s moderne to the retrospective Beaux-arts, a visit to the house feels like a lesson in design history, each room a striking display of elegance and elan.

The eight acres of gardens are among America's finest, designed by renowned landscape gardener Ellen Biddle Shipman. Wandering among fountains, quiet paths, a Spanish courtyard and a horticultural garden, the heat and noise of the city will feel a long way away.
