Kaziranga National Park reopens: 8 interesting facts about this wildlife haven
This is the time of the year when national parks and Tiger Reserves all over the country start to reopen after the long monsoon break. Kaziranga National Park has recently announced that the park has officially reopened for the season, and can’t keep calm about it. Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Assam, is one of India’s most treasured wildlife destinations. The park offers visitors some of the most unforgettable wildlife and cultural experiences.
Park’s reopening and safari information
After the seasonal monsoon closure, Kaziranga National Park has reopened its gates to visitors. If you are new to Kaziranga National Park, the park is divided into four tourism zones: Central, Eastern, Western, and Burapahar. Jeep safaris are allowed in all four zones. Elephant safaris are allowed in the Central and Western zones. Book tickets in advance.
Home to the largest population of one-horned rhinos
Kaziranga is home to the largest population of the endangered one-horned rhinoceros. Because of the park’s impressive rhino conservation efforts, thousands of wildlife enthusiasts visit the park every year to learn something about nature and wildlife conservation. Kaziranga National Park is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.
A birdwatcher’s paradise
Do you call yourself a birder? If yes, Kaziranga National Park should be on your wishlist. With over 500 species of birds, Kaziranga is a hotspot for birdwatchers. From migratory birds like the black-necked stork, to the great Indian hornbill, the park has surprises in all corners.
A haven for big cats
Kaziranga National Park was also declared a Tiger Reserve in 2006. It is one of the most important sanctuaries for Bengal tigers in India, especially in northeastern India. Kaziranga is also home to the highly rare ‘golden tiger.’ This rarity may have been the result of genetic mutation, but it is believed that there is only one in the country, and it is in Kaziranga National Park.
Elephant haven
Kaziranga’s expansive grasslands are home to large herds of Asian elephants. Visitors frequently spot these majestic creatures roaming the park, often in the company of calves, which adds to the park’s rich wildlife diversity.
