Kashmir: Cable cars ready for commercial operation in Patnitop

The scenic Patnitop tourist resort in Kashmir is all set to reach new heights with a ropeway project. It, almost, lost its glory after it fell off the Jammu - Srinagar National Highway route due to the construction of the Chenani - Nashri tunnel. Reportedly, the ropeway project was completed within a record time of 2.5 years despite the challenging terrain.
The said project was planned around 15 years ago to promote tourism in this region, and has now been completed at a cost of INR 150 crore. Referring to this progress, an official in the know-how stated that they are now waiting for a soft launch and for the final approval from the government. And with the inauguration of the cable car, it is expected that this region will emerge as one of the most sought after destinations in the country.
The one-way journey will take around 10 min, making the round trip of about 20 min (excluding the waiting time at the intervals). For those interested in some adventure activities, you can also look forward to a series of nine zigzag zip wires that measures 580 m, starting at an altitude of 1334 m and ending at 1371 m from the sea level.
Situated at a height of 2024 m above the sea level, this tourist spot in Udhampur district started registering lesser number of visitors as most of the tourists prefer taking the shorter Chenani - Nashri tunnel route on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. However, now the lower terminal of the ropeway project is at Sanget, whereas the upper terminal is at Patnitop.
Places that are in proximity to the lower terminal in Sagnet are Gauri Kund, Sudh Mahadev, and Mantalai, whereas the locations that are close to the upper terminal are Madhatop, Sanasar, and Nathatop. Thus, with the completion of this ropeway project, Patnitop is now more than ready to welcome tourists from all corners of the globe.
