Located about 105 km to the West of Mysore, Virajpet in Coorg district is lesser known than Madikeri but makes for an equally interesting visit, especially for the abundance of coffee. The town itself is a bit picture postcard like with houses interspersed with greenery. In the midst is the vibrant blue of the 200-year old St Anne’s Church built in a mix of European and Gothic architectural styles. Another important landmark is the century old clock tower. It is a bustling town trading in coffee and spices and hence it is easy to find fresh produce at the many stores in the centre of town. However, Virajpet is also the gateway to smaller sights that lie just outside such as the towering Tadiandamol, the highest mountain peak in Coorg and Chelavara falls, a small but scenic waterfall located inside an estate.
