Travelling to Meghalaya will not be as easy as it once was, as now you need to register with the government before entry. According to the latest reports, any non-resident travelling to Meghalaya and intending to stay for more than 24 hours in the state, are required to register with the government before entry.
According to the new law, non-residents who would like to visit the state of Meghalaya and wanting to stay for more than 24 hours, will now have to furnish a document to the government. The Meghalayan government believes that this move would keep both residents and the visiting non-residents safe, and is for the interest of all concerned. Any violation of this rule would be treated as unlawful, and could lead to a hefty fine, or imprisonment for up to six months.
The new law is applied to tourists, labourers, businessmen, and even those who come to the state for quality education. Also, visitors staying in hotels, homestays, or even at their relative’s place, would be required to submit their documents.
The government of Meghalaya is trying its best to draft new rules regarding the process of submitting documents, and they are trying their very best to make the system as short and simple as possible.
