Kashmir, one of the most popular and beautiful tourist destinations in India, turns into white wonderland during the winter season. For several decades, most parts of Kashmir remained closed off during winters due to heavy snowfall and poor visibility. But not this winter. For the first time in more than 70 years, since India’s Independence, Kashmir has decided to let some of these places stay open during the winter, definitely adding to the season’s cheer.

Places like Karnah, Sonmarg, Gurez Valley and Doodhpathri are some of the destinations that will remain open for the rest of the winter season. Take a look at some of the season’s beauties.
Sonmarg
Sonmarg or Sonamarg was an integral part of the Silk Road. During summer, Sonmarg’s beautiful valleys are all shades of green. With horses and mules grazing, the place is just a dream destination. In winter, the same place gets covered under a blanket of snow.

Other than just enjoying the beautiful vista, tourists can go for mule rides.
Gurez
Gurez Valley, like all other valleys in Kashmir is picture-perfect throughout the year. The valley is now open to tourists after more than seven decades so you can expect to see a lot of snow. The otherwise green valley looks magical under the blanket of snow.

Gulmarg
The ski haven Gulmarg is a must-visit destination this winter of adventure is on your mind. Nothing better than hitting the ski slopes; but, even if you don’t know how to ski, there are short beginner’s courses that you can take!

Skiing is a must when in Gulmarg during the winter season. If that’s not your cup of tea, you can go for the gondola rides. Gulmarg looks splendid from up above.
Doodhpathri
Doodhpathri is a scenic offbeat destination in Budgam district. The snow covered hills, meadows and waterfalls are the main attractions here in Doodhpathri.
