Rapid technological advancements have made it possible for China to launch the world’s first all-electric ship. The ship can hold 2000-tonnes cargo and can travel up to 80 km. It requires two hours of charging to be on the move. The all-electric ship weighs around 600 tonnes and is 70.5 m long. It was launched in China’s Guangzhou, located in the Guangdong Province. The massive ship was manufactured by Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Ltd., and is capable of moving at a speed of 12.8 km per hour. It is powered by 26-tonne lithium battery. Keeping the environment in mind, the all-electric ship has zero emission of carbon, sulphur and PM2.5. Therefore, it can be very well used as a passenger carrier.
On its maiden trip, the ship carried thermal coal for areas in and around Guangdong Province’s Pearl River.

The all-electric ship can, in fact, have more capacity in cargo loading if it gets equipped with larger batteries. Then, in that case, it can surpass its present load threshold. Built on new technologies and solutions, the all-electric ship is definitely one of a kind and can be a game-changer in cargo shipping industry.
