As soon as the Directorate General of Shipping gives its nod, the cruise vessel project between Kochi and Kozhikode will start, giving the much needed boost to cruise tourism in Kerala. As of now, the high-speed vessel is getting spruced up to go on its maiden trip from Kochi.
The said project remained stalled for three years, which will now finally see the light of day. Being a pet project of Kerala State Ports Department, this hydrofoil cruise ship service will be the first-of-its-kind in this country, and will be operated in support of private parties.
Now, how does hydrofoil cruise vessel operate?
The boat will automatically lift itself from the surface of water as it manages to reach the speed of 20 nautical miles. This will enable the vessel to rise up to 4 ft above the water surface, and by now only the boat propeller will be touching the water. The vessels will be able to accommodate 150 passengers at one time.
