The historic core, business district, and some of the best sights
Word to the wise: You won't find many locals downtown unless it's for work, so head elsewhere for the best dining and shopping.

Like many American downtowns, this one saw a great period of decline, abandonment, and crime, but it has since been witnessing a revival, thanks in large part to a big effort for the 1996 Olympics.
It's the historic core of the city and the main financial district, and it has some architecturally and culturally significant buildings, from the 1897 Flatiron building to the Bauhaus central library and the Georgia Capitol. Downtown is also home to some of the city's biggest and best sights - the World of Coke, the Aquarium, CNN Center, and Centennial Olympic Park.
