Indian Railways’ new discount offer promises to sweep you off your feet. In its bid to compete with roadways and low-cost airlines, Indian Railways has decided to offer up to 25 per cent discount on trains. The said trains would be the Shatabdi Express, Tejas Express, Gatiman Express, and the all-new Vande Bharat Express.
According to reports, a circular has been passed on to the zonal managers in order to determine competitive fares as a criteria to decide discounted prices. The Railway Ministry has also given permission to offer discounted fares for all parts of the journey. This includes the first leg, intermediate sections, and even the last part. The zonal officials now have the freedom to offer these discounted fares.
Reports also suggest that the inclusion of this discount scheme would mean that other discounts for the Shatabdi Express (graded discounts included) or flexi-fares would not be applicable.
