Word to the wise: The Red 26 bus goes westward from the MRT station, down Zhongshan old street, stopping very near the Red Fort.
This stunning fisherman's wharf is probably one of the best places in Taipei to watch the sun set. The waters stain pink as the light fades over the boats knocking together in the harbour, and couples watch from one of the many restaurants and bars along the waterfront, or stroll along the floating piers and impressive bridges.

Located in the small seaside town of Danshui in northern Taipei, there is a lot more beyond the attractions of the wharf itself. This was once home to indigenous people before being conquered by the Dutch in the 17th-century, which left a rich historical legacy in the beautifully renovated buildings and temples. Most notable is the Yinshan shrine and the Red Fort.

There are a number of traditional handicraft shops, arcades and food vendors, including a row of barbecue restaurants where diners grill their own meats and veggies tableside. For some pizazz come on a summer weekend for the fireworks shows.
