The first thing that people notice about the Art Gallery of Alberta is the unusual shape of the building. In 2010, the gallery underwent renovation and the result is absolutely breathtaking with a curved roof, jutted out structures and all glass window facade. This art gallery is actually the oldest cultural institute in Alberta, being founded in 1924, and it is the only gallery in the province that is dedicated to the preservation and exhibition of cultural and visual arts, making it really special for art lovers. Located in downtown Edmonton, the gallery spans over three floors and offers both rotating and permanent exhibits including those from Alberta and from the rest of the country. Beyond the amazing exhibits, the gallery offers a slew of other activities including yoga, drop in studio art classes, free movies on Wednesday nights during the summer and more. Sundays and Wednesdays are perfect for a visit if you have kids in tow as there are family focused activities offered all day long, and these come free with the price of admission. With plenty of things to see, interactive experiences for kids, a restaurant and a gorgeous place to spend a day, it’s no wonder that this is one of the best galleries in all of Canada.
