Rajgarh was the old capital of the rulers of Alwar, before it was shifted to Alwar town. It is a beautiful place overlooking a picturesque valley, with green wheat fields. It has a hilltop fort by the name of Rajgarh Fort, built by Raja Pratap Singh in the mid-18th century.
The famous Urdu poet, Mirza Ghalib’s father died in a war in Rajgarh and has a tomb dedicated to him. Rajgarh tehsil also has a small hamlet Rajorgarh, which is said to be an old kingdom from the 10th century AD. It is close to the pretty Tehla Lake, which skirts the Sariska Tiger Reserve and is a great destination for bird watchers.
There are two temples in the vicinity and Rajgarh is prominently located on the main train line from Delhi to Jaipur.
