Situated near Tikait Rai Ka Talab on Talkatora Road in Lucknow, Sheetla Devi Temple is age-old shrine, which is mostly visited by newlyweds. It is believed that the temple was discovered by some businessman centuries ago after it was destroyed by some intruders. The statue of the goddess was later found lying in a pond nearby and another temple was reconstructed by Raja Tikait Rai, the then Diwan of Nawab. He installed the idol of the goddess and also built a pond nearby which is presently known as Tikait Rai ka Talab. Every year, in the month of March, a grand celebration called ‘Aathon Ka Mela’ takes place in the temple and during this time, the place witnesses a swarm of devotees from near and far.
