St James' Church

Dating back to 1836, the St. James' Church is one of the oldest churches of the city, built by Colonel James Skinner apparently after being injured in battle when he vowed to build a church is he happened to survive his injuries. The church is a picture of calm and serenity even though the surrounding areas of Kashmere Gate go through the daily grind. The church is flanked by cosy green patches on three sides with Skinner's family including his 14 wives having been buried here. Best way to reach the church is via the Delhi metro-take the Kashmere Gate exit and take a peddle rickshaw from there.

If you decide to walk, check out the many tiny shops that dot the area, many of these go back decades. You will also cross the age old Ritz theatre enroute, another historical landmark. Once done with visiting St. James’ Church, you could pay a visit to Delhi’s oldest Post Office, a short walk away as well as the erstwhile Delhi College of Engineering campus that later became IP University once the DCE shifted to Bawana that happens to be overlooking the church.
