S.P. Mukherjee Swimming Stadium

This mammoth circular structure that was built in the pre-Commonwealth Games era (around 2009) was also the erstwhile Talkatora Stadium, a regular haunt for sports enthusiasts around the city. Incidentally, this stadium was built in 1982 to hold the Asian Games.

The erstwhile Talkatora stadium had two Olympic size pools-one indoor and the other outdoor, a huge diving pool and a warm pool. This has been replaced by an Olympic sized 10 lane swimming and a 25 m diving pool. The complex also has the largest cohestrand supported, breathable, elliptical shaped aluminium roof with a span of 150 m X 130 m. This makes it the largest covered aquatic stadium in the county with an Olympic sized pool. The stadium can house 5000 spectators.

The complex is spread over almost 13 acres with the built structure offering a floor area of 10,000 square metres. The complex itself is incredibly green since it is built in the Delhi Ridge area with S.P. Mukherjee Marg circling around it before hitting Chanakyapuri.
