A fanciful flight hubNoteworthy for: Terminal 2 highlights include the National Palace Museum exhibit hall, the Hello Kitty playground and massage services by blind masseurs.
Word to the wise: Take the Kuo-kuang Bus from Terminal A of the Taipei West Bus Station to the airport for only NTD 120-150.
Located an hour from downtown Taipei in nearby Taoyuan, the two-terminal airport services over six million passengers annually via its more modern Terminal 2 and the dated Terminal 1, currently undergoing a NTD 1.4 billion renovation.
While the airport is not the most comprehensive, the facilities are ample, such as computer terminals and free wireless throughout. There is the requisite duty free and luxury outlets, while the restaurants are limited to the usual lacklustre chain options.
Until a direct subway line to the airport is complete, travellers can take airport shuttle buses from the terminal next to Taipei Main Train Station, the Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel and Zhongxiao Fuxing intersection, or the High Speed Rail from Taipei Main Train Station to Taoyuan and transfer to a shuttle bus. While taxis are the quickest option, they are the most expensive at around NTD 1,200 to Taipei.
