Flower Market

On the backside of Wororot Market along the Mae Ping River you’ll find a street lined with stalls and shops selling fresh flowers all day and night. Decorative garlands used for offerings made out of jasmine blossom, marigolds and rosebuds rest on beds of crushed ice to stay fresh while cars pull up and yell their order out the window. Brick and mortar shops sell elaborate arrangements and bouquets of roses, baby’s breath and tulle while open-air stalls sell cut bunches of orchids, roses, jungle leaves and more in bulk for impossibly low prices. What’s even more fascinating is that all the garlands and offerings are expertly made by hand throughout the day by the women working in the stands. Take a peek in behind their displays and you’ll see bags of blossoms ready to be turned into garlands.
While some of the shops close down in the evening, the stalls selling offerings and garlands are open practically all night. There’s something magical about strolling down the street late at night and coming across this brightly lit, colorful market area with the sweet scent of fresh jasmine in the air—you feel as if you’ve come across one of Chiang Mai’s little secrets.
