Spread across 30 acres of land, the Zakir Hussain Rose Garden is a major attraction in Chandigarh. Named after India’s former president, the garden was created under the guidance of Dr. M. S. Randhawa who was Chandigarh's first chief commissioner. The garden also has the distinction of being the largest rose garden in Asia. While the garden houses 16,000 different species of roses, one can spot plants of medical values as well including bel, camphor and yellow gulmohar. Every year in February, the garden hosts a festival named Festival of Gardens, celebrated mainly as an accolade to the magnificence of the rose flower.
