Popular plate: In-house Icelandic restaurant Vox is widely considered to be the best fine dining establishment in town. The tasting menu is routinely phenomenal. One thing immediately evident in Iceland, is that it has somehow avoided being swamped by corporate chains. You won't even find a single pair of golden arches here - McDonald's pulled out after the 2008 financial crisis. Situated in Reykjavik's financial district, just a short taxi ride from the centre town, the Hilton is the only major chain hotel in Reykjavik, and a good one at that.
Featuring the clean, Scandinavian design elements that have become synonymous with Icelandair Hotels, it's not difficult to decipher who's running the show at the Hilton Nordica. Spread over eight floors, the 252 spacious rooms are furnished in muted, earthy tones, and executive room bookings grant access to the eighth floor executive lounge, where complimentary non-alcoholic drinks and snacks are available all day, and alcoholic drinks are served after 6pm - much like an airport lounge. The lobby bar is also a great place for a tipple, and there's an in-house spa and fitness centre to keep you occupied between tours.
