On the banks of Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River sits one of the city’s most dramatic temples—Wat Arun. Despite its name as the ‘Temple of Dawn’, the most spectacular view of the glittering monument can be seen from the east side of the river at sunset, when the spires of Wat Arun make an impressive silhouette against the skyline. If you’re not afraid of heights, brave the steep set of stairs up and be rewarded with stunning views of the area. Wat Arun houses images of the guardian gods of the four directions, and is an architectural representation of Mount Meru, the centre of the world in Buddhist cosmology.
