An inner-city haven of tranquillity, fresh air and shade, Lumpini Park is the perfect way to escape Bangkok without ever leaving town. Shady pathways, a large artificial lake, and swept lawns obscure the roaring traffic in this busy city, offering its denizens (and visitors!) a much-needed respite. Named after the birthplace of Lord Buddha in Nepal, the park spans an area of 142 acres and houses a sprawling variety of flora. Over the years Lumpini Park has evolved into a popular centre for outdoor leisure activities for Bangkok’s residents, who come by for a jog, light workouts, aerobics and a host of other recreational activities. The park occasionally hosts free concerts as well.
