This highly respected site is on the way to Neelkanth Mahadev. Narayani Mata Temple is a much revered site and is apparently the only temple of Sain Samaj in India. According to folklore and legend, its story goes back to the 11th century, where the first sati (immolation by fire) took place.
The path to this temple is an attraction in itself. After crossing the serene surroundings of Tehla Lake, the dirt road winds across many switchbacks to reach a fort-like gate and on the right side is Narayani Mata Temple. There is a small water source nearby with a historical legend, and hordes of monkeys sit on the opposite side of the temple as locals give food to them. The spring water here is considered to be holy as well.
There used to be a big local fair at the temple every year till early 90s, before the practice of sati was banned in the country. The insides of the temple are quite artistic and there is an old baba (sadhu), who resides there. It is one of the most popular local sights near Sariska.
