At Antoine’s on St Louis Street, there is a lot going on. Not only is the restaurant huge and sprawling, boasting some 14 rooms, but has a long history. It is considered to be the oldest family run restaurant not just in New Orleans or Louisiana, but in all of the USA. Among its most colourful associations are those with prohibition and Mardi Gras. It also has to its credit the invention of many dishes. But a lesser known fact is that it dishes up the most delectable cocktails. Among them is the Sidecar, a rich golden yellow concoction of cognac, Cointreau or triple sec, and lemon juice. It is an elegant and smooth drink, and goes down rather too easily.
