Designed predominantly in blue, as indicated by the name, and gold, Blue Nile is considered by many as one of the best live music places in New Orleans. Located in the middle of Frenchmen Street adjacent to the French Quarter, the jazz bar has performances by jazz bands as well as soul, funk, blues, and other varieties. It is also credited with being among the pioneers of live music performances on the street, thereby giving it a distinctive vibe. It is also loved because it offers visitors a choice of two venues – the street-facing front room on the ground floor, and a venue upstairs with a sprawling balcony. It is also popular because it hosts some of the biggest names such as Kermit Ruffins, apart from regulars such as the New Orleans Rhythm Devils, New Breed Brass Band, Brass-a-holics, and Waterseed.
