Located on Frenchmen Street in the famous Marigny area of New Orleans, which adjoins the French Quarter, the Spotted Cat Music Club is among the top favourites of jazz aficionados. Called just ‘The Cat’ by both locals and those familiar with New Orleans’ jazz scene, the place is kind of minimalistic. It consistently tops the list of jazz places for its quality and variety of music, which is mostly jazz, but could also include blues, funk, and klezner, among other genres. Don’t go looking for sophistication as drinks are usually served in plastic cups, and there’s fierce competition for the few seating arrangements. But connoisseurs are usually just happy to stand around or lounge against walls and listen to the top class fare that is showcased here.
