One of the great things about Detroit is that many buildings look abandoned when in fact they are not: what lies inside might be desolate or thriving. In the case of the Russel Industrial Center the latter is true: this building is filled with shops and artist studios. Everyone is extremely friendly, and artists will often be happy to show you around their shops or studios. So go through the shops, where you’ll find excellent cheap thrift clothes and old used records, or head up to the second building and knock on some doors to check out some of the artist studios. From glass blowers to DJs you’ll find all types out there, and people are often happy to show you around. Say hi from me to the Stick Man; he runs the best second-hand shop around.
