There is truly no better way of exploring the nooks and crannies of Iceland than a road trip around the Ring Road of the country. The 800-mile Ring Road circles the entire country and offers the perfect introduction to the wilderness and beauty of Iceland.
Start your road trip in Iceland’s capital Reykjavik. You can dine out to your heart’s content in the capital because dining options are extremely limited on the Ring Road. Explore the Golden Circle’s waterfalls, geysers, and national parks. Make sure to stop at the bridge where the tectonic plates of Europe and America meet. Next, marvel at floating icebergs at Jokulsarlon. The other-worldly landscape in this part of Iceland is bound to leave you stunned. Continue onto Myvatn Lake and the surrounding volcanic landscape. There are more volcanoes and sulphur springs in the area than you can count. Unwind in northern Iceland at Husavik as you indulge in whale watching. See if you can spot puffins in the area. Continue onto the West Fjords and the magnificent Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Wrap up your road trip by unwinding at the Blue Lagoon before hopping on to your flight back home. This road trip will leave you with memories that are sure to last a lifetime.
