It is the crown jewel of Alwar and towers above the sprawling city and is one of the most important travel destinations. The entire city can be seen from the fort’s extensive ramparts. Bala Qila extends about 5 km from north to south and 1.6 km from east to west and affords a bird’s eye view of Alwar city. It has recently been opened for tourists.
There are six entrances to the fort, namely Jai Pol, Suraj Pol, Laxman Pol, Chand Pol, Kishan Pol and Andheri Pol. There are stunning views of the surrounding lush green countryside from the top of Bala Qila, particularly at sunset. The drive to the fort is spectacular and sometimes affords a view of the wildlife of this region.
Inside the fort are many old cannons kept near the entrance. The architecture of the various parts is beautiful too. There are spectacular views of sunset from top of Bala Qila, for hills create a wonderful panorama.
