Visit one of only three embalmed dictators on display in the world
The waxy looking mummified corpse of Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov - aka Lenin - has been on display in his mausoleum on Red Square since 1924. In Soviet times, Lenin’s final resting place was a popular pilgrimage for all visitors to Moscow, although in modern times it’s only curious foreigners who are eager to ogle at the communist leader lying in his glass coffin.
Despite now being a capitalist country, visiting Lenin’s mausoleum is still a serious affair. There are strictly no photos allowed and they will thoroughly search your pockets and bags to check you don’t try to surreptitiously sneak anything in that you may use to damage his well-guarded corpse.
