Pinarayi Vijayan

Pinarayi Vijayan is an Indian politician and the current Chief Minister of the southern state of Kerala, serving since 25 May 2016. He was born on March 24, 1945, in Pinarayi, a village in the Kannur district of Kerala.

Vijayan started his political career through student union activities at Government Brennen College, Thalassery. He eventually joined the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M) in 1964. He rose through the party ranks and held various positions, including the state secretary of the CPI(M) in Kerala from 1998 to 2015.

Vijayan was elected as the Chief Minister of Kerala for the first time in 2016, after the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) won the state assembly elections. He was re-elected as the Chief Minister in the 2021 Kerala state assembly elections and became the only Chief minister of Kerala to get re-elected after completing full five year term in the office. He is also the longest-serving secretary of the Kerala State Committee of the CPI(M)
