Larry Page
Larry Page is an Internet entrepreneur, who co-founded Google Inc with Sergey Brin in 1998. In 2015, Page became the CEO of Google's parent company Alphabet Inc.
After his graduation from the University of Michigan, he joined Stanford University for his PhD, where he met Sergey Brin in 1995. Larry Page was struck with the idea of downloading the whole web. From then onwards, he started to rank webpages by their inbound links. Soon, both of them started to collaborate on a search engine they initially called BackRub. In September, 1997, they registered the domain Google.com with the mission to organize the world's information under one umbrella.
Page was Google's CEO until 2001, when Eric Schmidt was brought in to lead the company. He's currently ranked No 12 on Forbes' list of billionaires, with a net-worth of 37.4 billion dollars.
In addition to the entire brand called Google, Page and Brin came up with the concept of Google Doodle after a funny episode. In 1998, the duo drew a stick figure behind the second 'o' of Google symbolising the message that they were out of office at the Burning Man festival and with that, Google Doodles were born.
Larry Page, who stepped down as CEO of Alphabet in 2019, has maintained a relatively low profile in the corporate realm. While he retains his position as a board member and the controlling shareholder, he has refrained from assuming active roles within the company.
However, in 2022, reports emerged indicating Page's investments in a range of early-stage startups, particularly those focused on the development of flying cars. Additionally, he is said to be keenly interested in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
Beyond his business endeavors, Page is actively engaged in philanthropic pursuits. Notably, he is a significant contributor to the Carl Sagan Institute, a research establishment dedicated to the exploration of the cosmos. Moreover, he extends his support to various environmental organizations.
