Cyber crime

Cyber crime, also known as internet crime, is a fast growing mode of crime since the past decade. Even Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi could not escape its clutches as his Twitter account was hacked. A day later, the Congress’ Twitter handle too was hacked and cyber criminals threated to release secret communication of the party.

Cyber crime is now one of the biggest issues globally as criminals siphon off millions of dollars by hacking into people’s bank accounts. After the recent demonetisation move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged people of the country to use e-wallets and plastic money, pushing the country towards cashless economy. But Congress claims that Modi’s aim of achieving a cashless economy will lead to spurt in cyber crimes; party leader Digvijaya Singh even cited hacking of Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter handled as a case in point.

The government in order to curb cyber crimes are enforcing more stringent laws. Different cyber crime cells have been set up all over the world to deal with cyber criminals.
