A Sikh man’s false racism claim left an 18-year-old handcuffed as he lay dying. The case is now forcing Britain to confront questions about policing, race, religious identity and public trust

When Hampshire police released bodycam footage from the night Henry Nowak died, the murder case was already over.

A jury had convicted Vickrum Digwa, a 23-year-old Sikh man of stabbing the 18-year-old student to death on a Southampton street. On June 1, Digwa was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years. Judge William Mousley KC said Digwa had brought “shame” upon his family and his religion.
