Massive protests erupted in Albania over a $1.6-billion luxury resort project by Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners, which environmentalists say would damage an ecologically sensitive area — home to flamingos, seals and sea turtle nesting sites

“Albania is not for sale”, “Revolution”, and “Stop the project” echoed through the streets of Tirana as thousands of Albanians marched against a proposed luxury resort linked to a company associated with US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law.

The $1.6-billion project is being spearheaded by Jared Kushner’s investment firm, Affinity Partners. It includes developments on an island off Albania’s coast and along an undeveloped stretch of shoreline near the Vjosa-Narta protected area in the country’s south. The wetland is home to flamingos, seals, and sea turtle nesting sites.
