MUMBAI: Saurashtra and
Rajasthan Royals' left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya on Sunday lost his father Kanjibhai, who succumbed to Covid-19 at a hospital in Bhavnagar in Gujarat on Sunday.
Having returned from the
IPL, which was suspended midway, to his home in Vartej in Bhavnagar district, Sakariya had straight away gone to the hospital to visit his ailing father. This is the second death in the Sakariya family this year.
In February, Chetan had lost his brother due to suicide.
Sakariya was picked up for a life-changing amount of Rs 1.90 crore during the last IPL auction by the Rajasthan Royals.
Expressing its condolences, the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA), in a press release, said: "Everyone at the SCA is deeply saddened at the sad demise of Sakariya's father. We convey our heartfelt condolences to Chetan and pray to the almighty to give enough strength to everyone in his family to bear the loss and grant eternal peace to the departed noble soul."
