New York Jets guard Xavier Newman experienced a frightening moment on the field during the team's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but fortunately, the situation didn’t escalate into something more severe. Newman was carted off and later taken to a Pittsburgh-area hospital after sustaining a neck injury at Acrisure Stadium.

This incident occurred during an interception return in the third quarter when Newman collided with Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen, who had been blocking on the play. After the impact, Newman lay motionless on the field for several minutes, sparking concern among teammates and fans alike.
Medical personnel swiftly attended to Newman, and players were seen kneeling nearby as he was immobilized on a spine board and taken to the hospital via ambulance. According to the game’s telecast, there was positive news regarding Newman’s condition, as movement in his limbs had been observed during the medical attention.
Fortunately, a thorough examination of Newman at the hospital showed no significant damage. Interim Jets coach Jeff Ulbrich expressed immense relief, stating, “Thank the Lord, his tests came back negative.” The speedy release from the hospital just hours after the incident was seen as an encouraging sign, although it remains unclear when Newman will be cleared to return to the field.
Newman’s injury came at an inopportune moment for the Jets, as he was substituting for starting guard Alijah Vera-Tucker, who had left the game earlier due to an ankle injury. Despite the unfortunate turn of events for the team, Newman’s quick recovery was seen as a positive outcome amid a 37-15 defeat at the hands of the Steelers.
While there is no official timeline for Newman’s return, the Jets and their supporters are undoubtedly relieved that the injury wasn’t more serious, and his recovery will continue to be monitored closely.
