KANPUR, May 15: Promising leg-spinner Piyush Chawla has been selected for the prestigious Gavaskar-Border scholarship and would leave for Australia early next month for a month-and-a-half cricket training programme.
The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) Secretary Sports Administration P D Pathak said that he has received a letter from National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bangalore confirming Chawla's selection for the scholarship last evening.
He said Chawla would leave for Australia in the first week of June.
Pathak said Mohammed Kaif and Suresh Raina were also selected for the prestigious scholarship while they were playing for Uttar Pradesh.
Chawla is currently in Bangladesh for the One-day series and made his debut in the second ODI.
