Why was Alabama basketball player Aden Holloway arrested ahead of the NCAA Tournament creating major buzz around Crimson Tide program
Aden Holloway is suddenly in the spotlight for the wrong reason, just days before the biggest games of the college basketball season. The Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball guard was arrested in Tuscaloosa after police said they found more than a pound of marijuana inside his home. According to a report by TMZ Sports, officers working with the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force searched a house on Monday. During the search, authorities said they recovered over a pound of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and cash.
Police then arrested the 21 year old junior and charged him with first degree possession of marijuana and failure to affix a tax stamp. Officials say both charges are considered felonies under Alabama law. After the arrest, Holloway was taken to the county jail. Authorities set his bond at $5,000.The news comes at a very difficult time for Alabama basketball. The team is preparing for the upcoming NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, widely known as March Madness. So far, it is still unclear how this situation will affect Holloway’s role with the team in the tournament.
Because of his scoring ability, Holloway has been a big part of Alabama’s plans heading into the NCAA Tournament. The Crimson Tide received the No. 4 seed in the tournament bracket. Their first game is scheduled against the No. 13 seed, the Hofstra Pride men’s basketball.
However, Holloway’s arrest now raises serious questions about whether he will be able to play in that matchup. At the moment, officials have not confirmed what will happen next. His availability for the game will likely depend on how his legal situation develops in the coming days.
For Alabama, the timing could not be worse. March Madness is the most important moment of the college basketball season, and teams rely heavily on their top players. Now the program must wait and see how the situation around Aden Holloway unfolds before the tournament begins.
