Fans had already been waiting to see her return after she pulled out of the Australian Open 2026 with an injury. Before the tournament started, Osaka teased her outfit with a short fashion film on Instagram, building excitement among followers. When she finally appeared on court, the leopard-themed dress stood out immediately. Along with the outfit, she also wore gold accessories near her lips and ears, which quickly became a big talking point among fans watching the match.

While the outfit caught attention first, Naomi Osaka’s performance on the court also made headlines. Playing her first match since withdrawing from the Australian Open 2026, Osaka looked confident and focused against Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva. She started the match strongly and quickly moved ahead 4-0 in the opening set.
Kasintseva tried to fight back and managed to level the momentum for a short period. Osaka even missed three set points in the ninth game, which allowed the match to stay close for a moment. However, the four-time Grand Slam champion stayed calm and closed the set 7-5.
Her comeback also reminded fans that Osaka has a unique history in this event. Her early career highlights included her victory in the 2018 Indian Wells title, which first drew significant notice.
Outside of tennis, Osaka has developed a reputation for providing imaginative ideas to the sport. Earlier this year at the Australian Open 2026, she donned a jellyfish-inspired gown complete with a sheer veil and an umbrella, which soon went viral on social media.
She also tried out flower-inspired clothing during the Grand Slam season of 2025. At the French Open, she wore a sunflower-inspired costume, followed by a sakura-themed one, and then at the US Open she dressed in rose-inspired attire.
Wimbledon’s strict all-white rule limited her ability to experiment during that event. Now at Indian Wells, Osaka appears ready to make headlines both with her fashion choices and her tennis.
Looking ahead, Osaka will face either 18th seed Iva Jovic or Camila Osorio in the third round. If she keeps winning, a potential matchup with World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka could happen later in the tournament.
Osaka is also chasing her first title since winning the Australian Open in 2021, and her strong opening win in California suggests she is eager to build momentum again.
