Colby Covington sues his old pal Jorge Masvidal four years after Miami Beach attack, seeks over $50K compensation for his $15K Rolex watch repairs and injuries

Colby Covington has filed a lawsuit against fellow MMA star Jorge Masvidal over an alleged assault that took place in 2022 outside a well-known restaurant in Miami Beach. The lawsuit, filed on March 23, claims Covington suffered serious injuries and financial losses after the incident. He is seeking more than $50,000 in damages, along with additional legal costs and fees.

The dispute between the two fighters dates back to their UFC fight on March 5, 2022, in Las Vegas, where Covington defeated Masvidal by decision. According to the complaint, tensions remained high after the fight. Covington alleges that Masvidal made threatening remarks in a post-fight interview and later carried out those threats during the Miami incident.

According to court documents, Colby Covington claims that Masvidal confronted him on March 21, 2022, outside Papi Steak in Miami Beach. The complaint states that Jorge Masvidal, allegedly wearing a mask and hoodie. He approached Covington and struck him multiple times without warning. Reports suggest that Covington was hit in the face, including his mouth and eye, which resulted in a broken tooth.


The lawsuit further alleges that Covington suffered a brain injury from the attack. In addition to physical harm, he claims his Rolex watch was damaged. With repair costs estimated at around $15,000. Covington says the incident caused him to incur medical bills, lose income, and worsen a pre-existing condition. He also claims lasting physical effects and emotional distress.

In the complaint, Covington argues that Masvidal had previously expressed anger over the fight loss and made statements suggesting he would retaliate if they crossed paths outside the octagon. The filing describes these remarks as a clear indication of intent, which was later followed by the alleged attack.

Legal records show that Masvidal later admitted guilt in a battery case related to the incident. He was sentenced to two days in jail, with credit given for time already served. Despite this, Covington is now pursuing further legal action through a civil lawsuit.

Covington is demanding a jury trial. He is also demanding financial compensation for the damages he claims to have suffered. The case adds another chapter to the long-standing rivalry between the two fighters, which began as a friendship but turned into one of the UFC’s most personal feuds.
