Cupra Kiro reacts as Callum Voisin moves to Andretti for Madrid Rookie Test: “First you steal our livery, now our drivers?”
Andretti has been the last team to finally announce the names of the two rookies it will be fielding at the upcoming Madrid Rookie Test. While Freddie Slater will be making his Formula E debut with Andretti at the test, Callum Voisin will be driving a GEN3 Evo for the second time. He will be driving for Andretti after making his debut with Cupra Kiro last year. The Madrid Rookie Test is scheduled for Sunday, 22 March.
As Voisin made his Formula E debut at the Berlin Rookie Test last year while driving for Cupra Kiro, the team reacted to the news in humour. A comment from Cupra Kiro’s official Instagram handle read: “First you steal our livery, now our drivers? We’re honoured.”
Voisin also won the GB3 Championship in 2022. Speaking about his second run in a Formula E car, Voisin said, “I’m very excited to be joining Andretti Formula E for this year's rookie test. It will be my first time driving with Andretti and at the Jarama Circuit in Madrid, so I’m very much looking forward to the opportunity. I had a positive test last year at the Berlin Rookie Test, so I can't wait to build on what’s been a fun and different experience compared to what I’m used to. I can’t thank Andretti enough for the opportunity and I can’t wait to get going.”
Speaking about his Formula E debut, Slater said, “Obviously, I'm very excited to get my first taste of Formula E machinery. It's been something I've been looking forward to for a while now, having always wanted the opportunity to drive an all-electric race car. The Andretti name is incredibly iconic in motorsport, so having the opportunity to work with such a historic and successful organisation means a lot. I just can’t wait to get started.”
The Madrid Rookie Test will take place soon after the maiden Madrid E-Prix wraps up on 21 March. The test will follow on 22 March at the Circuito del Jarama in Spain.
