Marcus Rashford was absent from Manchester United's squad in their Premier League match against Bournemouth on Sunday. This marks the third consecutive game he's been excluded by manager Ruben Amorim amidst transfer speculation.

The 27-year-old forward seems to have lost his place in the starting lineup. He has struggled to replicate his impressive 30-goal performance across all competitions during the 2022-23 season.

Earlier this week, Amorim acknowledged the team's improved performance with Rashford. However, he emphasized his high expectations for player conduct, both during training and interactions with teammates.

“Rashford out again? It is my decision, and it always will be.”

Amorim further explained his selection process in a pre-game interview with Sky Sports.

“I want to see the best of my players, and then I try different things with different players, so that is my focus.”

Initially, both Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were excluded from the squad for the 2-1 derby win against Manchester City. Two days later, Rashford expressed his desire for a "new challenge" away from Manchester United.

Rashford has managed to score three goals since Amorim's arrival a month ago. However, his substitution in the 56th minute during the 2-1 Europa League victory over Viktoria Plzen on December 12 was met with boos from the fans. He hasn't played since then.

Last month, Amorim expressed his willingness to help Rashford regain his top form, but emphasized the player's own motivation as a key factor.

“I suspect it's getting to an inevitable ending where he will leave the club.”

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville shared his thoughts on Sunday, predicting Rashford's imminent departure from the club.

Rashford also missed Thursday's 4-3 League Cup quarter-final defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.
