PM Modi hosts Women's World Cup champions Team India: Here’s what happened at felicitation meeting
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the Women's World Cup-winning Team India at his residence at Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Modi praised the team's remarkable turnaround in the tournament after facing three defeats and social media criticism.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur reflected on their previous meeting with Modi in 2017, noting that they met him without a trophy then, but now with the trophy in hand, they expressed their desire to meet him more frequently.
Vice Captain Smriti Mandhana credited Modi as their inspiration and motivation. She attributed the success of girls across all fields to the Prime Minister's influence.
Deepti Sharma shared her eagerness to meet the Prime Minister again since their 2017 meeting, where he had encouraged them to persevere in achieving their dreams.
The Prime Minister discussed Deepti Sharma's Instagram profile featuring "Jai Shri Ram" and her Hanuman tattoo, which she said provides her strength.
Harmanpreet inquired about Modi's ability to stay present-minded. He responded that it has become an integral part of his life and routine.
The conversation included Modi's recollection of Harleen's famous catch against England in 2021, which he had previously highlighted on social media.
They discussed Harmanpreet's decision to keep the ball after the final match, with her expressing gratitude for the fortunate opportunity to secure it.
The Prime Minister and Amanjot Kaur discussed her memorable catch, despite initial fumbles. Modi suggested that while focus should be on the ball during the catch, afterward, attention naturally shifts to the trophy.
Kranti Gaud mentioned her brother's admiration for Modi, prompting an immediate open invitation from the Prime Minister to meet them.
The Prime Minister encouraged the team to promote Fit India, especially among girls nationwide. He emphasised the importance of fitness and addressing obesity concerns, suggesting they visit schools to inspire young minds.
