These incredible achievements have catapulted New Zealand cricket into the spotlight like never before.

Black Caps end 69-year wait with historic Test series win in India

The week of glory began on October 20, when New Zealand's men's team ended a 36-year winless streak in India with a commanding 8-wicket victory in the first Test in Bengaluru. It was New Zealand's first Test win on Indian soil since 1988 and only their third in history. The victory marked the start of their first-ever series triumph in India in 13 attempts since 1955.

Under an overcast condition, India's batting crumbled under the pressure, posting just 46 runs in their first innings - their lowest Test total in Asia. New Zealand pacer Matt Henry spearheaded the demolition, taking 5 for 15. In response, New Zealand amassed 402 runs, taking control of the match. India showed fight in their second innings, with Sarfaraz Khan's 150 helping set a target of 107, but the Black Caps chased it down with ease.

The second Test in Pune was even more dramatic. New Zealand fought back after being bowled out for 259, with Mitchell Santner delivering a match-winning performance, taking 7 for 53 to dismiss India for just 156. New Zealand set India a challenging fourth-innings target of 359, and despite Yashasvi Jaiswal's blistering 77, India folded for 245, giving New Zealand a 113-run victory and their first-ever Test series win in India. This also ended India's 12-year unbeaten run in home series.

White Ferns make history with maiden T20 World Cup win

While the men's team was making history in India, the New Zealand women's team, the White Ferns, achieved their own momentous victory by lifting their first-ever ICC Women's T20 World Cup in Dubai on the same day as the Bengaluru Test win (October 20).

Entering the tournament as underdogs, the White Ferns stunned the cricket world by defeating India by 58 runs in their opening game. Despite a setback against defending champions Australia, New Zealand reached the semifinals with wins over Sri Lanka and Pakistan. A narrow 8-run victory over West Indies in the semifinals set up a final clash with South Africa.

In the final, the White Ferns posted a competitive total and restricted South Africa to win by 32 runs, claiming their first T20 World Cup and second ICC trophy, following their 2000 Women's ODI World Cup win.

Seven days of glory for New Zealand Cricket
In just seven days, New Zealand cricket achieved historic feats that have redefined their legacy on the world stage. The Black Caps' first-ever Test series win in India and the White Ferns' maiden T20 World Cup triumph represent the pinnacle of New Zealand cricket's red-letter week, marking a period of unprecedented success that will be remembered for years to come.

It hurts. Not the defeat but the manner of it. I had tried to remain stoic, unaffected by the happenings at Pune, which in any case was an extension of what happened at Bengaluru, but my emotional quotient got the better of me and here I am sharing my disappointment at the manner of loss.It was bound to happen, sooner than later. A near 12 year reign spread over 18 series wins, gave us this sense of invincibility, atleast at home. Like all good things must end, this too was bound to happen. If we look back the core has remained same, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Chateahwar Pujara-the bulwark who lent stability and substance- was unceremoniously shown the door and who still regularly notches up double centuries in domestic cricket and elsewhere. Among the bowlers only Jasprit Bumrah and Md.Shami played regularly. Yet, For all the wealth of experience our batsmen have they came to cropper while combating one Santer. That this batting line up is vulnerable to quality spin is well documented by their performances during the last 12 years. Players whose names were never heard again have cornered glory by teasing and tormenting our famous batting line up. Try as I might, I am unable to recall their names, though it was just yesterday I read about them. The reality is that our batsmen can't play spin and our bowlers can't spin. Clearly, all the fab four are over the hill with age catching up and slowing down their reflexes. Having regard to this, what was needed was adaptability and temperament. The situation was tailor-made for somebody to put up his hand and fight. Yet, there was not even a semblance of fight. In both the innings short selection lead to their downfall. The problem is discipline, rather the lack of it. With some fight to stomach we could have run them close, but is was not to be. With the facade peeling off, we have the ugly reality before us. It won't surprise any, if the Kiwis blank us again in Mumbai and blank us 3-0.May be we will see a feather-bed at Mumbai so that our greats can pile up runs and shut all criticism. It may happen.
